Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police were called to a car-pedestrian crash that occurred on North Shore Drive East of Eagle Lake Road at 11 a.m. Jan. 17.
A vehicle driven by Nicky Kaczmarek, 62, from South Bend, was driving his 1998 Chevrolet soutbound on North Shore Drive and as he made the curve at Island Park Drive his vehicle started sliding on the slushy road surface as he was going to his mailbox on the south side of North Shore Drive.
As the vehicle slid he struck Thomas Slager, 82, from Edwardsburg, walking along the side of the roadway. Slager was thrown off the vehicle and into a series of mailboxes.
Edwardsburg Ambulance took Slager to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Crash is still under investigation by the police department.
