CASSOPOLIS — An Elkhart, Ind., man, Kevin Brian Vint, 40, was arraigned in Cass County Fourth District Court Monday for Sunday’s shooting of Trevor Claire, 44, of Edwardsburg, at a Mason Township residence.
Claire remained in critical condition Monday afternoon, “hanging onto life,” as Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz put it.
Cass County sheriff’s deputies arrested Vint at the scene after witnesses identified him as the person who shot Claire twice, in the stomach and in the leg, with a .380 pistol with a laser scope.
Vint is charged with attempted murder, assault with intent to commit murder and using a firearm in commission of a felony.
He remains lodged in the Cass County Jail on $300,000 cash or surety bond.
“This took place in a pole barn of a mutual friend,” the prosecutor said. “It appeared to be possibly premeditated due to an ongoing squabble regarding a female.”
This incident remains under investigation.
