Niles library hosts Black History Month events

An evening storytime for the whole family will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the storyroom at the Niles District Library, 620 East Main St. in Niles. Come listen to stories, sing songs and make a fun craft. January’s theme is “Blue.”
Those ages 2 to 5 are invited to attend a Thomas the Train party at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 in the community room at the Niles District Library. The Niles District Library hosts a series of free events to celebrate Black History Month 2012, taking place every Saturday in February.
• At 1 p.m. Feb. 4, the movie, “Up From the Bottoms: The Search for the American Dream,” tells the story of the massive migration of African-Americans from the rural south to the prosperous north during the World War II years and beyond.
• At 2 p.m., Ezekiel Freeman, a Notre Dame student from Liberia, will speak about the founding of his country.
