Earl L. Sorsby, Sr., 86, of Cassopolis, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at his residence.

He was born March 16, 1925 in Jackson, Miss. to Mabel Sorsby. He married Colyne Danzy on November 25, 1954 in Cassopolis.

He served in the U.S. Army. Earl was a life member of the William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704 and a member of the Honor Guard.

Earl is survived by his wife, Colyne Sorsby of Cassopolis; five daughters, Betty Hall of Memphis, Tenn., Jacqueline (Floyd) Foston, Jenice (Samuel) Cloud, both of Cassopolis, Jenny (Douglas) Davidson of Kalamazoo, and Janell (Frederick) Brown of Cassopolis; one son, Earl (Andrea) Sorsby, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren, and the first great-great-grandchild expected in April; one sister, Gladys Minor of Chicago; and one brother, Henry (Regina) Ivory of Sacramento, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and one brother, Willie Fizer.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the donor’s choice. Donations may be sent to the family in care of Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway St., Cassopolis, MI 49031.

The family is planning a memorial service and military honors for Mr. Sorsby at a date to be announced.
