The Niles Haunted House Scream Park raised more than $82,400 this year for 80 area children’s organizations, civic groups and other charities.
Proceeds benefitted local school and service organizations, including Make-a-Wish Foundation, Lakeshore High School Stage Crew, Boy Scout Troop 550, Niles Drama Club, Boy Scout Troop 541 and RBM Ministries.
The funds will also be used for two local college scholarships established many years ago.
The 32nd consecutive year of the Scream Park included six haunted attractions that provided volunteer opportunities in construction and operation of the park.
Plans are under way for even more additions next year.
More than 20,000 hours were volunteered by more than 600 people before and during its 21 nights of operation to prepare and operate the attraction.
The park was ranked No. 7 in this region this year by Haunted House Chicago.
In 2009, it was one of the featured haunts in a movie titled “Halloween — The Happy Haunting of America Part II.” The Scream Park was the featured haunt in the February 2007 issue of Haunted Attraction Magazine, a national publication.
