Fred’s spirit was called from his earthly body to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 6, 2011.
Born in Manistee, Mich. to Fred Sr. and Mabel (Anderson) Senger, Fred was a longtime resident and community servant to his friends in Cassopolis.
Fred was a U.S. Army veteran, attaining the rank of technical sergeant from 1947 to 1949 and upon completion of his military service, he returned to Manistee and connected with the love of his life, his best friend and soulmate Carol Battige. They were married on June 24, 1950 and began a life together that spanned 61 wonderful years.
Fred was an accomplished printer and in 1952, he and Carol moved to Cassopolis to work with for the Cassopolis Vigilant and to begin raising his family. He worked in the printing industry continuously until his retirement in 2009.
Fred was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and served his Lord and friends as one of the founding members of that congregation and helped it grow as its financial secretary for more than 40 years. He was also a community servant and after being elected to the village council of Cassopolis, he served as a council member and village president for several terms.
Those who knew him will fondly remember the impact he had on his family, friends and the community.
He will be greatly missed and is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Christi Huss (Robert); his son, Rick Senger (Beverly); and son, Todd Senger (Colleen). Fred is also survived by his grandchildren: Lisa Schamburg (James), Carrie Bridges (Shaun), Rob Huss (Stephanie), Michael Senger (Jennifer), Bethany Gillam (Cary) and Brandi Senger. A quiet man, he was also blessed by great-grandchildren: Caitlynn, Chelsea, Dustin, James, Mary, Maizen and Lenox. He is also survived by his sister, Jairis (Paul) Shereda, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the St Paul Lutheran church on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11:30 a.m.
The family received visitors in the fellowship hall of the Church at 305 West State St., Cassopolis from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made to the Ladies Circle of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cassopolis or the Barn Swallow Theatre, P.O. Box 296, Cassopolis, MI 49031, in his name.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, Cassopolis.
