Phyllis Jean Moore, 79, of Edwardsburg, passed to her rest Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011 in Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Mishawaka, surrounded with family and her priest by her side. Phyllis passed as the result of an auto accident on July 8 in Edwardsburg.
Phyllis was born Aug. 18, 1932 in Mishawaka, Ind., the daughter of Kenneth and Blanche (Smith) Miller and has lived in Edwardsburg for many years.
She was a school bus driver for Edwardsburg Public Schools and retired from Eaz Lift Springs of Elkhart. She was a devout member and supporter of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edwardsburg.
She loved her church and church family. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Phyllis loved quilting for her family and for charity, including making quilts for veterans of Battle Creek VA Hospital.
On Oct. 28, 1950, Phyllis married Richard Gene Moore at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Mishawaka and they moved to the Edwardsburg area in 1964.
Her husband Richard passed on Sept. 16, 1971. She graduated from Mishawaka High School.
Surviving are her children, Mark Moore of Edwardsburg, Daniel (Cheryl) Moore of Cassopolis, Gina (Christopher) Bennett of Edwardsburg, Maria (Lloyd) Wilder of Edwardsburg, Monica (Dave) Majewski of Cassopolis, Anna (Tom) McDonald of North Carolina, Teresa (Brian) DeCraene and Jennifer (Terry) Parrish, both of Cassopolis. She has 27 loving grandchildren and 34 admiring great-grand-children. She has siblings; Joan (Edward) Lower of Granger, Ind., Sharon (Larry) Fisher of Mishawaka and Robert (Delores) Miller of Mishawaka.
Family who have already passed are her parents; her husband; two sons, Christopher Moore and Michael Moore; granddaughter, Carrie Wilder; two sisters, Carolyn Eby and Linda LaLone; and her brother, Donald Miller.
Friends and family may gather Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the social hall of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 U.S. 12, east of Edwardsburg for time with the family.
There will be a prayer service at the close of the evening. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. in the church where friends and family may gather for one hour before the Mass. Burial will follow in Adamsville Cemetery next to her husband, Gene.
Memorial donations may be given to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church or the Edwardsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2284.
