The Brandywine tennis team tied visiting Lakeland Conference opponent Buchanan Wednesday evening with each team sweeping one another in straight sets for both the singles and doubles flights.

Brandywine’s doubles teams really controlled their matches easily with the most competitive match coming at the fourth flight. Brandywine seniors Mike Schoenleber and Nick Wright defeated Buchanan junior Daniel Bonek and freshman Colin Weetly 6-3, 6-3.

“I was really proud of the doubles and how they played today,” said Bobcat coach Dave Sidenbender.

Buchanan coach Sean Jesse seconded his counterpart’s assessment of how their doubles opponents played.

“Their doubles were very strong and played with more intensity then we did,” he said.

The Buchanan singls players in return won all of their matches against the Bobcats. Again, the fourth flight served as the most contested match up. Buchanan senior Agape Mpamira rallied out of a first set 30-40, 4-5, deficit to Brandywine sophomore Kyle Duncan, to take the set 7-5. Mpamira then went on to win the second set 6-3 and clinch the tie between the two teams.

The tie represented perhaps greater things to come in the eyes of the Brandywine coach.

“I’m really happy with the effort our players put forward. We have never beat Buchanan, but I feel as though we are taking the right steps to get closer to that goal. We just need to keep improving,” Sidenbender said.

The Bobcats will return home in action next Wednesday as they take on Bridgeman at 4 p.m.
