New Buffalo firm recalls ground beef that may contain metal fragments

NEW BUFFALO — Barney’s Market, a New Buffalo, establishment, is recalling approximately 140 pounds of ground beef that may contain pieces of metal fragments.

The following products are subject to recall:

• Barney’s Value Pack 81percent Lean Ground Beef
• Barney’s 85 percent Lean Ground Beef from Chuck
• Barney’s 90 percent Lean Ground Beef from Round
• Barney’s 95 percent Lean Ground Beef from Sirloin

The products were produced Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011.

The impacted products were sold on Saturday, Aug. 20, through noon on Sunday, Aug. 21, at Barney’s Market located at 10 North Thompson St., New Buffalo, Mich.

The problem was discovered through daily cleaning and maintenance of equipment.

There have been no reports of injury from consumption of these products.

Anyone concerned about an injury from consumption of the products should contact a physician.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and USDA Food Safety Inspection Service were notified of this incident.

Barney’s Market is cooperating fully with their investigation.
