Geraldine Ann Windbigler-Gerschoffer, 74 / Feb. 5, 1937 — July 23, 2011

Geraldine Ann Windbigler-Gerschoffer, 74, of Elkhart, Ind. and formerly of Edwardsburg, passed on July 23, 2011 at Greenleaf Living Center after an illness.

She was born Feb. 5, 1937 in Mishawaka, the daughter of Lincoln and Helen (Whitaker-Couch) Shoemaker.

Gerry graduated from Edwardsburg High School in 1955 and went to college for one year. She first married Allen Windbigler and that ended in divorce. She then married George Gerschoffer, who passed on Jan. 22, 1987.

Gerry was a loving person and was friends with everyone who knew her. She was a member of the Edwardsburg Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and a charter member of the Edwardsburg VFW Auxilliary. She enjoyed knitting newborn outfits for the Memorial Hospital Neonatal Unit.

Surviving family members are her children, Lou Ann Christner of Goshen, Ind., Rebecca (David) Cooper of Edwardsburg and Randy (Dawn) Windbigler of Edwardsburg; as well as the children’s father, Allen Windbigler of Edwardsburg. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; Gerry’s siblings, Janice Sundman of Edwardsburg, Phyllis (Douglas) Frantz of Elkhart and Norman (Janet) Shoemaker of Plano, Texas.

Family who have passed are her parents, her son Mark A. Windbigler in 1993 and a son-in-law, Michael W. Christner in 2007.

Friends and family gathered Tuesday, July 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main on U.S. 12 in Edwardsburg. The service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Chris Garner of Crystal Valley Missionary Church in Middlebury. Entombment followed at Rice Cemetery, Chapel of Memories.
