St. Mary’s Troop 579 of Niles is working hard to send a group of 14 high adventurers to hike the Appalachian Trail in Virginia in August. They will also be taking a day off the trail to visit the sites of Washington D.C.
Donate by making a financial contribution or by registering a company/non-profit organization for the Riverfest Raftrace on Aug. 6. Proceeds this year are primarily benefiting the 50-mile High Adventure Backpacking Trip.
The theme for the Riverfest 2011 raft race is “Music.” Two free T-shirts are included with each entry. Raft rentals are available for $75. An adult must accompany all participants under 16 years old. Participating groups decorate their rafts according to the current theme, then are put in the water and proceed down the St. Joseph River in a “floating parade.” Rafts are provided, or bring a boat. Some building materials are provided, but entrants must supply the creativity, design and style.
