Two people were severely injured in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening in Niles. Lt. Mike Stanton of the Niles Police Department has confirmed their injuries are not expected to be fatal.
According to Stanton, the motorcycle was traveling northbound on South 11th Street when a Dodge Charger crossed in front of it from Cherry Street.
The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for their injuries. Their names were not available from the NPD. Both were wearing helmets.
The driver of the Charger was not injured and he was wearing a seat belt.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident.
Stanton said police have several witnesses to the crash, and the case has been turned over to the prosecutor’s office to determine if charges will be filed. The Michigan State Police assisted at the scene to determine if speed or other factors contributed to the crash.
