Nearly 1,000 Midwest Energy customers still without power

After two full days of outage restoration work, Midwest Energy Cooperative officials remain hopeful that the end is near after Monday’s strong storms devastated portions of the co-op’s southwest Michigan territory, leaving more than 15,000 members without service. At 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, just under 1,000 remain without service. The areas most heavily impacted include Cassopolis, Paw Paw and Mattawan.

Crews have been working on restoration around the clock since Monday morning. At this point, much of the remaining work requires clean-up and rebuilding as a result of the extreme damage left by the storm, all of which is very time- and labor-intensive. In spite of that, the cooperative believes the  majority of outages will be restored late today or Thursday.
