Danny Brown, 62 / Nov. 9, 1948 — July 6, 2011

Danny Carl Brown, 62, of rural Cassopolis and formerly of Edwardsburg, passed away, suddenly, on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Elkhart General Hospital Emergency Room from an apparent heart attack.

Danny was born Nov. 9, 1948 in South Bend, the son of Willis Carl and Bonnie Eva (Turnbo) Brown. He grew up in Edwardsburg and attended school there as well. Danny entered the U.S. Army in 1968 and served his country. He received a Purple Heart and four bronze service stars while in Vietnam. After the service, he worked for Conrail Railroad as a machine operator in the Elkhart Yards.

Danny is survived by his children, Lonnie and Travis, both of Edwardsburg and Stephanie Cline also of Edwardsburg. There are six loving grandchildren, Chelsey, Chasity, Dillon, Austin, Caitlin and Carlee. Other family are his siblings, Jean (Bill) Schirf, Frank (Linda) Brown, Fred (Marsha) Brown and Russ (Vicki) Brown all of Edwardsburg.

Family who have passed are his parents and recently, his brother Rex Brown on April 18, 2011.

Danny enjoyed his family and the family gatherings, especially the time spent with his grandchildren. He liked to farm and especially loved his dogs and all animals. He had a collection of figurines in miniature pigs and proudly displayed the collection. He was a member of the Edwardsburg American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was formerly a member of the Edwardsburg Conservation Club.

Friends and family gathered at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main Street (U.S. Highway 12), Edwardsburg on Monday, July 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. The service of remembrance was Tuesday, July 12 at 1 p.m. in Smith’s Chapel Church, 29858 Redfield St., Milton Township. Burial will follow in Smith’s Chapel Cemetery with the U.S. Army and local veterans giving military rites.

It is suggested that memorial donations be directed to the Paul W. Mayhew Funeral Home to assist the family in the funeral expenses.
