COLDWATER — It took some time for the Edwardsburg varsity baseball team to warm up its bats Tuesday night, but once it did, the result was a 5-4 victory over Vicksburg in Division 2 pre-district action.

Vicksburg took an early 1-0 lead with a double by Ben Spieldenner who then scored on a single by Pitcher Austin Shepherd. Shepherd added a three-run home run in the third inning to put the Bulldogs up 4-0.

Dan Witucki started things off for the Eddies with a lead-off double and then scored when Ethan Moreno singled to right field to make the score 4-1 at the end of the fourth inning.

Kyle Slack got on base with a throwing error to start the Eddies’ comeback in the fifth inning.

Jason Schimpa was walked and Ethan Zimmerman singled to load the bases before Zack Thompson hit a three-run double with Zimmerman beating out the throw to home to tie the score 4-4.

Three consecutive walks by the Bulldogs allowed the Eddies to have bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jason Schimpa lifted a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Calib Dill to score for the winning run.

Kyle Slack went the distance for the Eddies with nine strikeouts, one walk. He allowed only four hits and one earned run.

Slack struck out the side to end the game for the Eddies.

Edwardsburg will now play Three Rivers at 10 a.m. Saturday morning for a chance to play for the district championship game.
