COLOMA — The Edwardsburg baseball team swept the Coloma Comets and clinched the Lakeland Conference championship Tuesday night.

Kyle Slack was the starting pitcher for the Eddies and struck out seven batters, with no walks and only allowed one hit.

This is Slack’s fifth Lakeland Conference shut out.

Offensively, the Eddies were led by Dan Witucki with three singles and an RBI, Slack with two singles and four RBIs, Evan Zimmerman with two singles and two RBIs, Ethan Moreno with a double and two RBIs, Calib Dill with a single and two RBIs and Jason Shimpa with a single and two RBIs.

Evan Zimmerman was on the mound for the Eddies in the nightcap.

He struck out 10 batters, allowed no walks and gave up three hits as the Eddies won 14-4.

Zack Thompson came in for relief in the sixth inning. The Eddies were still batting in the top of the 7th inning when the game was called for darkness.

The Eddies were led by Zayne Guernsey and Dill each with a double, a single and three RBIs, Ethan Zimmerman with two singles and four RBIs, Jason Shimpa with two singles and an RBI, Witucki with two singles and Thompson and Moreno each with a single and an RBI.

The Eddies will finish their season on Thursday when they play at Three Rivers. They start Division 2 district tournament play next Tuesday in Coldwater with a game against Vicksburg at 6 p.m.

The Edwardsburg baseball team won a pair of non-league games on Monday against visiting Bronson.

The Eddies won the first game 11-1 in five innings and then completed the sweep with a 15-5 victory, also in five innings.

Ethan Moreno tossed a two-hitter in the first game for Edwardsburg.

Moreno helped his own cause with a home run, while Caleb Dill had a pair of doubles. Daniel Witucki had two hits and Zach Thompson singled and doubled.

In the nightcap, Witucki tossed a four-hitter to earn the victory.

The Eddies finished with 12 hits, including a double, a triple and four RBIs from Witucki. Ethan Zimmerman had a home run and a single, while Moreno had two hits.
