Coloma splits with Edwardsburg to win league title

COLOMA – A split on Tuesday cost Edwardsburg its shot at the outright Lakeland Conference softball championship.
After winning the first game against host Coloma 4-2, the Eddies were set up to claim the outright title with a victory in the nightcap.
Unfortunately, it was the Comets that claimed the outright championship, its first ever, by beating Edwardsburg 5-0.
Coloma (26-10, 11-1 Lakeland) scored three runs in the first inning of the second game to set the tone. The Comets scored twice more in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Emily Najacht tossed a four-hitter at the Eddies in the second game after coming up on the short end in the opening game.
Alexa Summers tripled and Jenny Wallace doubled as Coloma finished with nine hits off of Andrea LaPlace.
Victoria Hurst had a triple for the Eddies.
In the opening game, Edwardsburg used a three-run fifth inning to pull out the victory. The Eddies were trailing 2-1 heading into the fifth.
LaPlace scattered seven hits as she earned the victory.
Edwardsburg finished with five hits.

The Eddies swept a non-league doubleheader from visiting Bronson on Monday.
Edwardsburg won 3-2 and 6-4.
Teryn Williams had two hits, including a double.
LaPlace picked up the win as she scattered five hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Nicole Brooks had two of Edwardsburg’s four hits.
Jill Blough got the victory as she struck out four.
