Chieftain tennis team blanked by Bulldogs, 8-0

The Dowagiac tennis team was no match for Wolverine Conference perennial power Otsego Wednesday afternoon.

The Chieftains were defeated 8-0 by the Bulldogs, losing every flight in straight sets.

The most competitive match of the day came at No. 1 doubles where Jessica Martin and Megan Hornbert fell to Abbey Woodstock and Baily Thompson 6-4 and 6-3.

BUCHANAN — In a highly competitive Lakeland Conference tennis match, visiting Brandywine and Buchanan had to settle for a 4-4 draw.

It was the second straight day to the Bobcats had to settle for a tie in league competition. Brandywine and Edwardsburg played to a draw on Tuesday afternoon in a battle of Lakeland Conference unbeatens.

The Bucks swept the singles flights in straight sets, while the Bobcats swept the doubles flights. Brandywine’s Ashley DeJonge and Lena Miles defeated Buchanan’s Maddie Higgins and Dana Dowell in three sets, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-0.

STEVENSVILLE — Visiting Niles and Lakeshore split a Big 16 Conference West Division match 4-4 Wednesday afternoon.

The Vikings won three out of four doubles flights, while the Lancers won three of the four singles flights.

Niles’ lone victory in singles came at the fourth flight where Haley Linville defeated Allie Allman 6-2, 6-3.

The Vikings picked up wins at first, second and third doubles to earn the split.
