Edwardsburg softball team falls to St. Joseph

Visting St. Joseph limited Edwardsburg to just seven hits and took advantage of eight Eddies errors to sweep a non-conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday.

The Bears (2-0) won the opening game 13-1 and then blanked Edwardsburg (0-2) in the nightcap to complete the sweep. Both games lasted just five innings.

Sam Helsley took the win in the opener for St. Joseph, which got a home run and a double from Erica Priebe. Lesy Schalk also doubled for the Bears.

Andrea LaPlace took the loss for the Eddies, who finished with five hits and five errors. Maddi Holmes and Emily Shoupe both doubled for Edwardsburg. Ashley Wegner pitched an inning for the Eddies.

Rachel Knapp was the winning pitcher for St. Joseph in the second game. She also doubled.

Jill Blough suffered the loss as she worked two and a third innings. LaPlace worked the final two and two-third innings.
