Drewzella Andrade, an eighth grader at Dowagiac Middle School, and Isabella McIntosh, a second grade student at Kincheloe Elementary School, both had the same idea Friday at The Mane Attraction hair salon.

Helping other kids.

Both girls had more than 10 inches of hair cut off and sent to Locks of Love in West Palm Beach, Fla. Both girls were a little nervous cutting off that much hair, but wanted to do something to help others.

Lock of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create high-quality hair prosthetics.

The Mane Attraction Hair Salon is located on Front Street in Dowagiac and offers to anyone who wishes to donate to the “Locks of Love” Foundation, they will take care of arrangements for sending in the hair and give $5 off the haircut.

Jimi June Fryman, owner of The Mane Attraction, stated that having a medical condition and being sick is hard enough on kids and to go without hair has to be even worse.

The Locks of Love program is such a wonderful program she is glad she can be of help.

Drew Andrade’s hair was cut by Judy Rodriguez.

Izzy McIntosh’s hair was cut by Jimi June Fryman.
