CASSOPOLIS — Terrell Blackamore was sentenced to prison in January, and he’s taken his girlfriend down with him.
Stacie Wares, a 32-year-old Dowagiac resident who housed Blackamore when he was selling cocaine and marijuana, was sentenced Friday in Cass County Circuit Court to 270 days in jail and two years of probation.
Wares will receive 35 days credit for time served.
Judge Michael Dodge said from Oct. 1 through Nov. 8 of last year, Blackamore was living with Wares in her home on S. Paul Street in Dowagiac, where he was selling “a significant amount of cocaine and marijuana.”
Dodge said Wares had knowledge of the drug operation and assisted Blackamore in the sale of drugs on occasion.
Originally, Wares had sentencing guidelines of 29 to 57 months, which would have meant a trip to prison.
But Dodge lowered the guidelines to zero to 17 months on Friday.
The original guidelines accounted for 22 ounces of cocaine over the course of 11 months, but Dodge ruled the guidelines should just account for the amount for which she pleaded — less than 50 grams.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Frank Machnik said Wares was willing to testify against Blackamore had his case gone to trial.
Blackamore was sentenced to six to 40 years in prison on Jan. 30.
In other sentencings April 1:
• Kevin Worl, a Niles resident, was sentenced to two years in prison on a felony firearm conviction. The two-year prison sentence is mandatory by Michigan law.
The underlying offense, which Worl was not convicted of, was possession of stolen property. Worl, 32, was found in possession of a stolen .22-caliber rifle and several tools, according to Machnik. Machnik said there wasn’t enough evidence to convict Worl of stealing the property.
• Theron Black and Shelly Friske, both of Dowagiac, were sentenced to two-year probation sentences for possession of cocaine.
They were found in possession of the illegal substance in February at Friske’s residence.
Both admitted to having smoked it that day.
Friske also was in possession of prescription drugs without a prescription.
• Robert Britton, a 27-year-old Cassopolis resident, was sentenced to eight months in jail and two years of probation for possession of methamphetamine and delivery and manufacturing of marijuana. He will receive credit for four days already served.
