A new tune at Our Lady of the Lake

Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edwardsburg has acquired a digital carillon chimes system for its church.

The system contains more than 500 religious seasonal and patriotic hymns that can be programmed to play through its external speakers at various times.

In addition, the system includes the chime sounds of a peal, a funeral toll and a call-to-worship swing.

A volume control allows an adjustable circle of neighbors to enjoy the pleasant sounds and melodies of the chimes.

Currently, the system is programmed to play before and after the church’s weekday and weekend Masses as well as the noon and 6 p.m. daily, known traditionally as “the Angelus.”

This gently-used digital carillon chime system was a gift to Our Lady of the Lake Parish from the Augustinian Order, of which Paster Father Joe McCormick, OSA is a member.

The system was removed from a Chicago-area monastery of the order that closed recently and will soon be sold.

Originally purchased for more than $11,000 10 years ago, the carillon chimes system is one of several gifts to the parish from the Augustinian Order that includes a crucifix and tabernacle for the sanctuary, various church furnishings and several liturgical vestments.

It has been suggested that, in all, these many gifts to Our Lady of the Lake have a replacement value of about $25,000 to $30,000.
