Dowagiac Board of Education Monday night received an update from Superintendent Dr. Mark Daniel on next week’s Disney Way.

Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital put together two teams for the three-day workshop following Monday night’s keynote address to the community by Bill Capodagli (cap o die), author of bestsellers “The Disney Way” and “Innovate the Pixar Way” and an international business consultant for Fortune 500 companies.

Daniel and school board President Larry Seurynck invite the whole town to “Dream with Dowagiac Union Schools” at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at the middle school Performing Arts Center.

“We (the school district) will have two teams as well” for educators and community members. “The city will also have a team of approximately 12 members,” Daniel said. “That’s 100-plus” participants. “We’re very grateful for all four groups (also including Southwestern Michigan College) coming together to support this initiative,” which principals are promoting in each building.

Seurynck stressed, “This is just the first step. This is training the trainers. Once we get through this process next week, then it’s going to actually be a series of storyboarding sessions” to develop a Dowagiac Dream that will be delivered to the community with an Aug. 31 target date.

“The community needs to understand that this doesn’t start and end next week,” the school board president said. “This is actually the first event in a process by which lots of people will have an opportunity to make their voices heard.”

In other Feb. 21 business in the middle school cafeteria, the school board granted Union High teacher Matt Alward a 15-day family leave for childbirth from April 11 to May 7.
