Republicans pick up three Cass seats

Decision 2010CASSOPOLIS — Republicans gained three seats Tuesday on the Cass County Board of Commissioners, although Dowagiac Democrat E. Clark Cobb withstood a challenge from former commissioner John H. Cureton, 415-274, in District 11.

In District 1, Republican Ed Goodman of Silver Creek Township defeated  Democrat James Jerue, 634-386.

Incumbent Democrat David Taylor of Edwardsburg was ousted in District 7 by Republican Roseann Marchetti, a former teacher, 636-440.

In District 4, where Democrat Bill Steele did not seek re-election, Republican Dwight W. Dyes garnered 565 votes.

In District 14, former commissioner Dale Rose, a Republican, won the seat back from Democratic incumbent Debbie Ann Johnson, 476-349. Howard Township marijuana activist Sy Vanderbutts also claimed 51 votes in District 14.

In the other contest, in District 9, Vice Chairman Ronald Francis prevailed against Democratic challenger Judy Ann Helpingstine, 765-346.
