Niles finishes with big victory

KALAMAZOO — Anthoney Bice and Martell Miller both ran for more than 130 yards and scored three touchdown each as the Niles Vikings concluded the 2010 season with a lopsided 56-26 victory over host Kalamazoo Loy Norrix Friday night.

Bice ran for 132 yards on 27 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 1, 7 and 3 yards. while Miller ran for 133 yards on 18 carries with scoring runs of 10, 14 and 12 yards.

The Vikings (4-5) opened the scoring on a 1-yard Bice run and Dustin Wright kick in the opening 12 minutes of play.

The second quarter was an offensive explosion as the two teams combined for 41 points with Niles coming out on the plus side 21-20, which allowed the Vikings to take a 28-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.

It was all Niles after that as the Vikings scored 14 points in each of the final two quarters and led 56-20 when Loy Norrix (1-8) scored the game’s final points.

In the second quarter, Riley Robson caught an 11-yard pass from Cole Clemens for a score, while Bice scored on a 7-yard run and Miller tallied on a 10-yard run. Wright was perfect on all three extra point kicks.

The Knights counter with a 1-yard run from quarterback Kane Cruz, who also threw 37- and 53-yard touchdown passes to Nick Stump and Je’Vonte’ Hughes respectively to keep the game close.

In the second half, the Vikings came out and got a 14-yard touchdown run from Miller and a 3-yard touchdown run from Bice to break the game wide open. Wright was again perfect on both kicks and Niles headed to the final quarter with a 42-20 advantage.

The final two Vikings touchdowns came on a 29-yard run by Brandon Partee and a 12-yard run by Miller.

Loy Norrix capped the scoring with a 95-yard kickoff return by Hughes following the Miller touchdown.

Niles finished with 413 yards on the ground, while Clemens was 3-for-3 for 33 yards and a touchdown to give the Vikings 446 yards in total offense. Partee finished the night with 98 yards on 10 carries.

The Knights managed just 92 yards rushing and 114 yard via the pass to finish with 206 yards in total offense. Cruz finished the night 7-of-11 for 114 and the two scores. CeJuwon McFerrin led the Loy Norrix ground game with 67 yards on 10 carries.

Defensively for the Vikings, Ronnie Jones and Logan Harpenau both had interceptions.
