CASSOPOLIS — Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7:43 a.m., his office was called to investigate a personal- injury crash on Dutch Settlement Street, near Penn Road in Penn Township.

Jason Laymon, 21, of Dowagiac, was eastbound on Dutch Settlement when a deer ran into him causing him to lay down and become unseated from his motorcycle.

Life Care Ambulance transported him to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment.

He was wearing his helmet.

Deputies said alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Assisting were Penn Township Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance.
