Cassopolis baseball team defeated by Shamrocks

BERRIEN SPRINGS – The Cassopolis baseball team opened up its season against Lakeland Conference contender Berrien Springs on Tuesday afternoon.

The Rangers dropped both ends of the league doubleheader to the Shamrocks.

Berrien Springs took the first game 5-1 and then held off Cassopolis 4-3 in six innings.

The second game was shortened by darkness.

Kevin Hatcher took the loss in the first game as he worked the first four innings.

Dwight Morgan came on in the fifth and pitched the final three innings.

Cassopolis was held to just a pair of hits by Berrien Springs pitcher Jon Shembarger.

In the second game, Nate Blad suffered the loss as he worked the first four innings.

Ryne Nickle pitched the fifth and sixth innings for the Rangers.

Garrett Shembarger was the winning pitcher as he scattered six hits.

Cassopolis actually outhit Berrien Springs in the nightcap, 6-3.

The Rangers return to the field today a they host New Buffalo in a non-conference doubleheader.

Cass will then travel to Three Oaks to take on River Valley on Tuesday, April 13.
