Learn more about local wind energy development

Stein, Michigan State University Extension farm management educator, is scheduled to speak on leasing land for the purpose of wind energy development.

Due to landowner inquiries on the land use topic, the program is targeted for landowners primarily in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties.

The program is open to anyone interested in the topic.

The program is scheduled to be held at three locations: South Haven, April 5, 2 to 4 p.m. at Lake Michigan College, 125 Veterans Blvd., phone number (269) 657-8213; Benton Harbor, April 5, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Berrien County MSU Extension office, 1737 Hillandale Rd., (269) 944-4126; Dowagiac, April 6, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Wayne Township Hall, 53950 Glenwood Rd. (at Marcellus Highway), (269) 445-4438.

Topics to be discussed in his presentation include: basic contract details, confidentiality issues, contract duration, compensation clauses, assignment clauses, property taxes, liability issues, other restrictions on land use, choice of law/choice of venue clauses and contract termination. These guidelines are designed to help landowners consider some important issues when negotiating a contract.
