Charles W. Stewart Jr., 59

Charles W. Stewart Jr. 59, of Vandalia died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 in the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, Grand Rapids following an extended illness.

He was born May 23, 1950 in Niles, the son of Charles and Betty Lou (Evans) Stewart Sr.

Charles worked as a driver with the United Limo Co. He had attended the Peoples Protestant Church in Cassopolis, and was an avid chess player.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War.

Charles married the former Beth Oats in 1973 and she survives along with their three children, NaDonna (Jermaine) Taylor of Harper Woods, Mich., Marchelle Watt of South Bend and Charles W. Stewart, III of South Bend; his mother, Betty Lou (David) Lawson of Vandalia; a sister, Wendy Lou Stewart of Kalamazoo; and a brother,  Lionel Stewart of Cassopolis.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Stewart Sr.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Cassopolis. Interment will be in the Calvin Center Cemetery, Calvin Township, Cass County.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis.

Memorials may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
