Niles Community Schools is already gearing up for the 2010-2011 school year with kindergarten registration.

Registration is scheduled for Wednesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Northside Child Development Center, 2020 North Fifth St.

Northside principal Cindy Wickham said it’s difficult to estimate just how many children will begin their education in Niles next year but said that a majority of their students are registered during  March and April.

“Our enrollment has stayed pretty consistent” over the years, Wickham said.

Though registration is routinely held at Northside school, parents have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of teachers and principals from each of Niles’ elementary schools.

“This is registrations for all Niles Community Schools kindergarteners for next year,” Wickham said.
Eligible students must be five years old on or before Dec. 1, have all required immunizations, have an official birth certificate administered by the county or state, have an updated physical examination and vision and hearing screening.

Registration is for parents and children do not attend. Paperwork will be available for parents to fill out for their kindergarteners and they will receive an informational packet. Required school records will be due at school entry.

Vision and hearing screening sign up will be available as well as information on transportation, immunizations, preschool and child care.
