The Volunteer Center of Southwest Michigan features a “Volunteer of the Week” each Saturday in the Niles Daily Star and Thursday in the Edwardsburg Argus and Cassopolis Vigilant.

Lindsay is a patient care volunteer. She has been a volunteer since October 2008. She was just turning 18 years old when she became a volunteer. As a patient care volunteer she visits with our nursing home patients and offers them companionship. She oftentimes will read to them, hold their hand, watch TV or a movie. She gives the patient love and comfort in the knowledge that she is simply there to be with them in their last moments of their lives.

The rewards of volunteering: “Lakeland Hospice has been a great opportunity. I am rewarded every day I volunteer when I see a smile on one of my patients’ faces. I have learned patience, happiness and to be dependable and for that I am truly grateful.”
