Rick M. Guerin, 64, of Niles passed away suddenly of natural causes at his residence on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010.
Rick was born on Dec. 8, 1945 in Saginaw, Mich. to Hector and Marion (Terrian) Guerin.
After graduating high school, Rick was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving his country proudly during the Korean War.
On May 4, 1968 he married Monica Woyner at a ceremony in Caro, Mich. Rick spent most of his working career as a food service director, working at Grayling Hospital for five years and then employed for 19 years at Niles Pawating Hospital. He currently worked in maintenance at St. Mark Catholic Church in Niles.
Rick was a passionate giver. He continually gave of his time to many local organizations as well as provided toys at Christmas for children, food for the local pantry and blankets for the elderly. Rick was a member of the Niles American Legion Post 26 and a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. He also loved playing bingo and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Hector Guerin.
Rick is survived by his wife, Monica Guerin of Niles; his mother, Marion Guerin of Niles; a son, Paul (Stacy) Guerin of Mishawaka; a daughter, Michelle (Mike) Bellaire of Niles; three grandchildren, Alex and Jessica Bellaire and Chloe Guerin; and a brother, Randy Guerin of Hemlock, Mich.
A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 4 to 8 p.m. with rosary at 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m.
In keeping with Rick’s wishes, memorial contributions may be made to the local food pantry at Christian Service Center of Niles 322 Clay St., Niles, MI 49120.
