MHSAA playoffs: Rangers headed to Mendon Saturday

Cassopolis’ loss 35-0 to Coloma Friday night left the Rangers with a 6-3 record and sends them to Mendon to take on the 9-0 Hornets in the opening round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs.

Cassopolis was defeated by Mendon in the 2007 district finals, 39-18.

Mendon has posted seven shut outs this season and have allowed just 21 points. The Hornets are ranked No. 2 in Division 7 and have won six state championships under the direction of coach John Schwartz.

Mendon last state title came in 2007.

Cassopolis will enter the post season on the heels of back-to-back losses to end the regular season.

The Rangers and the Hornets will play on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Decatur (6-3) will travel to White Pigeon (8-1) in the other district semifinal.
