The regular meeting of the Galien Woods Historical Society will be held Aug. 27, at the Galien Village Park beginning with a picnic supper at 5 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass, their own table service and wrapped white elephant gifts for Bingo.

Business will include discussion of plans for the celebration of the Galien 1879 jail restoration which was recently completed. The celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 1:30 p.m. during the Galien Pioneer Days which is planned for Sept. 25, 26, and 27.

The members on the Historical Society will place flags on the graves of over seventy Civil War veterans in the Galien Cemetery on Thursday Sept. 24. The Sons of the Veterans of the Civil War have placed new grave markers on graves which were not marked and replaced stones that were badly damaged. On Saturday Sept. 26, following the jail celebration, there will be a program in the cemetery to dedicate these markers.

These events are being held during the Galien Pioneer Days and the public is encouraged to attend.
