Corn and sausage roast is today at senior center

The Greater Niles Area Senior Center is located at 1109 Bell Road, Niles, is offering a Corn and Sausage Dinner today, Saturday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. Your ticket of $6 in advance, will get you delicious sausage, steamed fresh sweet corn, side dishes, dessert and all the trimmings. Calling All Euchre Players
Today, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. The Traveling Euchre Tournament makes its next stop at the Coloma Senior Center. Please call (269) 683-9380 to sign up.

Chair Massage at the Center
Feeling tense? Joahn Abrahams will be here Monday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. giving chair massages. The massage lasts 10-12 minutes and focuses on the upper body. The cost is $8.

Berrien County Youth Fair
Aug. 17-22: Exhibit your talents Friday, Aug. 21 at the 65 & Over Arts Day. This is your chance to exhibit something you made in the past year. Items must be handmade originals and not be made from kits. Categories include: Fine Arts, Photography, Woodworking, Fiber (knitting crocheting, weaving, tatting, etc.), Paper Crafts and more. If you can’t go that day, we will make sure your exhibit gets there and back safely. Our Hawaiian Dance Class will demonstrate their talents in the USA building. Groups from other Senior Centers will also perform Friday afternoon. If you’d like a ride to the fair on Aug. 21, please call the Center.

Be Kind to Your Feet
Lakeland Home Care will provide a foot care clinic on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The initial charge is $28 which includes the cost of the equipment used each time you return. The cost will be $20 for every subsequent visit. Please call for an appointment.

Ceramics
There are two choices in choosing class time: The class on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 9 continues for those who want to work on their own. On the 1st, 3rd and 5th when applicable Tuesdays, Janice Gramm will be at the center at 1 p.m. to teach. A great class if you’re new to ceramics or would like to have someone give you pointers or encouragement. The Center furnishes the supplies and has pieces you may purchase to complete.

Apple Festival Royalty 2009
The Center is currently accepting nominations for the Senior King and Queen of the Four Flags Area Apple Festival, Oct. 1-4. Nominating forms, available at the Center, are due by Sept. 4. This event is co-sponsored by the Greater Niles Senior Center and the Four Flags Area Apple Festival. The King and Queen represent the Center and all area seniors. They ride in the Apple Festival parade, and other area parades during the year they reign.
Everyone who has had the honor will tell you: it’s a lot of fun! Just ask our current royalty: Faye Walker and Ben Masek.

Scrapbooking
Mondays from 1-3:30 p.m. Please join us. Beginners through experienced scrappers welcome. The Senior Center has tools and supplies for you to use including a Cricut machine. Just bring your own scissors and adhesives.

Ceramics
Second and Fourth Tuesdays at 9 a.m., or the 1st, 3rd and 5th Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Call the center to determine which course level is right for you. Whether you are new to ceramics or have done it before, these classes are for you. We furnish the supplies and have pieces you may purchase to complete.

Card Making
Monday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. We supply the materials and ideas, you bring your own adhesives and scissors. Please register in advance. There is a $3 fee.

Chat & Stitch
Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Come and be a part of this friendly group, just bring whatever you are working  on or get some new ideas. Help is available with tatting and crocheting.

Pastels
Wednesdays from 12:30 – 2 p.m. Phillip Falcone will teach you about pastels and general art. Come join the fun!

Tai Chi
Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m. Learn the fundamentals of this ancient exercise of balance and tranquility. Ongoing participation has been proven to improve your health. Wear loose fitting clothes and bring an exercise mat or rug.

Book Club
First Thursdays at 10 a.m. If you like to read and to discover books you might not find on your own, join the “Bookworms.” We enjoy lively and thought-provoking conversation, laughter and friendship. The book for August is  “While My Sister Sleeps” by Barbara Delinsky

Thursdays at 1 p.m.

Watercolor Class and Tatting

Niles Senior Woodcarvers
2nd and 4th Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. Bring your tools and wood and join us. Teachers are willing to help. Newcomers always welcome. Must be age 16 or older.

Sign Language
Fridays at 10 a.m. Marcie Nunemaker will teach you the basics of signing

Please call to reserve your seat and let us know if you will be at the Center or want to be picked up at home. A $3 donation is requested. We leave at 9 a.m.

Fridays at 12:30 p.m.

The Walking Club
