LAKE FOREST, Ill. – A 17-year-old high school junior from Florida on Thursday made an eagle from 90 yards out, chipped in for birdie out of high fescue grass, and holed a 30-yard pitch from the rough en route to winning the stroke-play portion of the 107th Western Amateur in advance of Friday’s “Sweet 16” match play competition.

Taiwan native Chen-Tsung Pan shot rounds of 4-under par 67 and 2-under 69 in the 36-hole finale, finishing 72 holes at 4-under par 280 to claim medalist honors.
