Mabel N. Chandler, 92 of South Bend, Ind., passed away Monday July 27, 2009, in her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday July 30, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, Ind. with Pastor Daniel Clark of Community Congregational Church officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family today, Wednesday, July 29 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

She was born on Feb. 16, 1917, in Ryegate, Mont. to Ray C. and Emma A. (Bohn) Norris.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Thelma Roberts and brother, H. Dick Norris.

On Feb. 24, 1946, in South Bend, Ind., she married Claude C. Chandler, who died in 1984.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Diane S. (Jim) Bernath, Karen L. Chandler; her son, Dean Alan (Sheila M.) Chandler of South Bend, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Joseph Dean Chandler, Kaylin Marie Chandler and Clara Lynn Bushman.
In 1961, she and Claude founded Chandler Sales and Service and she retired in 1978. Mabel loved to bake and made a mean cherry pie, she also enjoyed flowers and the beautiful birds of the air. She was an avid Cubs Fan and watched the team the Sunday before her death.  Mabel looked forward each year to the Norris family reunion.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, or Community Congregational Church.

Due to construction on Cleveland Rd. entrance must be made from Hickory Road, south of Brick Road.
