Bringing health tips to the fair

ST. JOSEPH –   Lakeland HealthCare will provide free health information and wellness activities for all ages at the Berrien County Youth Fair, Monday, Aug. 17 through Saturday, Aug. 22.

Lakeland team members will be located in Commercial Building 35, booth 50, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
From 6 to 8 p.m. each day, Lakeland partner physicians will be on hand to answer your medical questions.

Parents, take note – children’s crafts, games, and activities will be available throughout the week. All visitors to the Lakeland booth will be eligible to win different prizes each day.

Health activities and information will change daily:
• Monday, Aug. 17 – Heart Healthy Day: Lakeland will focus on heart health, with information on heart disease awareness. Free blood pressure screenings will be available from 1 to 6 p.m.

• Tuesday, Aug. 18 – Healthy Eating Day: Featured exhibits will include nutrition, fitness, and weight loss. Rockwell the Raccoon, Lakealnd’s mascot, will visit with children from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Wednesday, Aug. 19 – Active Living Day: Community members can learn how to stay active at all ages from Lakeland Rehabilitation Services team members.

• Thursday, Aug. 20 – Safety Day: Safety topics will include stroke symptoms, hand hygiene, and preventing falls.

• Friday, Aug. 21 – Senior Care Day: Staff from Lakeland Homecare, Lakeland Hospice, and Van’s Medical Equipment of Lakeland will be on hand to show visitors to the booth the many ways they can help relatives stay independent longer and safer. Free blood pressure screenings will be available from 1 to 6 p.m.

• Saturday, Aug. 22 – Cancer Care Day: Lakeland will raise awareness of cancer prevention, detection, and treatment options.
The first 250 children to visit the booth and learn the importance of sunscreen will receive a sand bucket and shovel.
