The Niles City Police Department announced Friday that three Indiana residents found themselves under arrest in Niles Monday, facing narcotics charges.

Niles City Police Chief Ric Huff reported that along with the assistance of the Michigan State Police, officers made a traffic stop of a truck in the Niles Wal-Mart parking lot on July 20.

The stop led to an investigation into the possible possession of illegal narcotics.
The Niles City police service dog, Riggs, was used to sniff the exterior of the truck. Riggs alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the truck.

Riggs was then used to search the inside of the truck and alerted to a backpack which contained 10 pounds of marijuana.

The three arrested were Jessica A. Salazar of South Bend, Ind., and Shawn P. Devine and Matthew F. Harwood both of Mishawaka, Ind.

Each face charges of delivery and manufacturing of marijuana.
