Lauren Leonard, Miss Apple Festival 2008 and chair of this years festival, Kim True, invite young women interested in competing in the 2009 pageant, to come the Apple House located on the Apple Festival grounds tonight at 7 p.m.
“As my reign as Miss Apple Festival 2008 comes to an end I would like to take a moment to encourage the young women of the community to get involved with this organization,” Lauren said. “Not only has the Apple Festival been a staple in the community for 37 years, but it also helps young women to become who they are and who they want to become.
“I attend Brandywine Jr./Sr. High School where I serve as the president of the Junior class and play varsity volleyball, basketball and tennis. I also volunteered time to the Elk’s Children’s Easter Egg Hunt as well as the Niles Service League this year. I know how hard it is for young women with busy schedules to find time for ‘one more’ activity, but trust me, the Miss Apple Festival pageant is worth it. It helps instill pride in yourself and build confidence to become a roll model for children and young adults in the Four Flags area.
“This year I have had the opportunity to participate in so many activities such as; area parades, youth day, senior citizens dance, golf outing, attending area pageants, the Lip-sync contest and of course the apple pie eating contest, but nothing compares to the whole new family I am blessed to be a part of. The people that are involved with this organization are the best people I have ever met. They are more than chaperones, escorts and liaisons; they are friends and extended family. I will never forget them and the memories we have shared.”
This year the winner of the Miss Apple Festival pageant will have the unique opportunity to compete at the Miss Michigan USA or the Miss Michigan Teen USA pageant if she so chooses. She will receive an Apple Festival Scholarship and prizes, and a chance at winning more scholarships and prizes through the Miss Michigan USA organization.
“I feel accomplished and proud of the things I have participated in this year and would like to see more young ladies take advantage of the leadership roles in the community,” Lauren said.
