Niles All-Stars pick up wins

Niles All-Stars both earned victories Thursday night in the Michigan District 15 Little League tournaments.
Niles edged visiting Mendon 5-4 in Major Baseball Division play, while the 9-10 All-Stars blew out Marcellus 19-0 in Mattawan.
The 11-12 All-Stars (Major Baseball) will be back in action on Monday as it hosts Decatur, which defeated Vicksburg in its last contest. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
In other action on Thursday night, Paw Paw edged Coldwater 4-3.
Niles will be hosting the remaining championship bracket games, including Dowagiac versus Three Rivers on Monday at 6 p.m.
The semifinals are slated for July 16 at 8 p.m. and the championship game for July 20 at 6 p.m.
Niles will also host the consolation semifinals on July 16 at 6 p.m.
The 9-10 All-Stars, who are playing on the consolation bracket, are back at it on Saturday in Vicksburg against Constantine at 1 p.m.
In the other 9-10 game Thursday night, Mattawan Blue defeated Mendon 13-2.
Niles will host a pair of consolation bracket games on July 14. The games will be played at 6 and 8 p.m.
The Niles 13-14 All-Stars return to action on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Schoolcraft against Three Rivers. The winner advances to the semifinals in Niles on July 15 at July 15 at 6 p.m.
Niles is also hosting a consolation bracket contest on July 15. That game will be played at 8 p.m.
Niles’ Thomas Stadium is hosting the Big League Baseball State Tournament, which begins today.
While Niles does not have a team in the tournament, the city is hosting teams from six districts.
Play begins today at 3 p.m. with the District 16 and District 5 team squaring off.
The second game is slated for 8 p.m. with District 2 and District 14 battling to stay in the championship bracket.
Games continue through Monday.

Eaton Park Invitational
The annual baseball tournament kicked off on Thursday with the Howard Township and Buchanan All-Stars earning victories.
The Howard All-Stars defeated North Lincoln 8-2 in Peanut League A play, while Buchanan won 15-8 over Watervliet in Peanut B action and defeated South Haven 6-5 in Little League B play.
Action continues all weekend.
