State Rep. John Proos ended the year with a $2,500 surplus remaining in his office allotment which he plans to return to the state.
Proos said he was able to save taxpayers money by exercising fiscal responsibility in the daily operations of his Lansing office.
"My goal as a state representative is to provide the best constituent services I can, while still saving taxpayers money," said Proos, R-St. Joseph.
"Each year I've been in office I have returned money to the state, proving it is possible for government to control spending. It's just a matter of being disciplined and setting priorities."
State representatives are provided an office allotment to cover expenses such as staff salaries, printing, mailing and telephone costs.
