NILES – With just two days until year's end, the Niles will see another business fall under the weight of tough economic times in 2008.
Rumors had been circulating that United Fixtures, may shutting down two plants – one located in on Howard Street in Niles and another in South Bend Ind. The Niles Star had tried to confirm those reports in early December, with no response from the company.
But Monday, those rumors became reality as reports circulated that employees were informed the Howard Street plan would indeed close its doors.
An official with United Fixtures, which holds its corporate office in Naperville Ill., could not be reached at press time. It is believed that just under 50 employees will see their jobs end today, having been told of the news just the day before.
