NILES – Donald Eugene Jessup, 72, passed away at Riverview Manor Nursing Home following an illness on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008.
He was born on April 17, 1936, in Dowagiac to the late Kenneth and Marie (Thursby) Jessup.
Donald worked as a welder for many years at Clark Equipment Co. in Benton Harbor.
After leaving Clark Equipment he worked several years as a truck driver.
Donald was very active as a volunteer in the Sister Lakes Fire Department and he was an honorary member of the Dowagiac VFW.
He loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing and mostly spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by: two sons, John (Sherri) Jessup of Marcellus and Jerry Jessup of Foley, Ala.; one daughter, Janine Jessup of South Bend, Ind.,; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenny (Pat) Jessup of Dowagiac; two sisters, Sharon (Stewart) Hill of Elkhart, Ind., and Arlene (Tom) Wright of Cassopolis.
In keeping with Donald's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Jan. 3, 2009, at 1 p.m. with a time of memories starting at 11 a.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, 61453 M-51 North, Niles.
