VANDALIA – Jim and Ruby Green celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a dinner party with their children on Sunday, Nov. 9.
James Edward Green and Ruby Lucille Heslet were married on Nov. 9, 1938, at the home of their minister, the Rev. Main, in Penn.
Ruby's sister, Juel Heslet, and Jim's friend, Ralph Horrall, stood up for them as witnesses.
They have lived all of their married life in Cass County.
Early in the marriage, he worked for several different companies, including Clifton Engineering, Tyler and Kawneer in Niles and also delivered Ice in Jones, before becoming a fulltime farmer.
She worked for G. W. Jones Exchange Bank in Marcellus for several years in the 1970s.
The couple have seven children – four daughters, Carol (Stan) Nederhoed of Middleville, Linda (Jonathan) Tone from Cassopolis, Sandra (Robert) Wright and Kathy (Steven) Asmus, both from Vandalia; and three sons, Thomas (Rose) Green of Cassopolis, James (Linda) Green and Jeffrey (Debra) Green, both from Vandalia.
The Greens also have 29 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
