SMC freshman killed in crash

ST. JOSEPH – The Berrien County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that closed U.S.-12 at Dayton Road in Buchanan Township for more than three hours on Wednesday, Oct. 29, Lt. Don Goulooze reported.
Initial investigation showed Edward Tuholski, 75, of Galien, was driving west on U.S-12 in a 2002 GMC pickup truck when he attempted to make a left turn onto Dayton Road.
He struck an east bound 1994 Ford Tempo driven by Nicolette Allen, 18, of Three Oaks.
The left front of the of Tuholski's GMC truck impacted Allen's Ford in the driver's side doors and into the driver's seat, striking Allen.
Officers, firemen and ambulance personnel were able to free Allen from her car, but she died while enroute to the hospital.
Tuholski was treated and released at the scene by SMCAS for minor injures.
Allen was a freshman at Southwestern Michigan College.
