NILES – Senior Samantha Brawley of Niles and sophomore Mark Calhoun, also of Niles, have been named the Leader Publications Athletes of the Week for the Niles Daily Star.
Brawley qualified for her fourth consecutive state cross country finals last Saturday with a 14th place finish in the Division 2 girls' race.
Brawley, along with teammate Madie Rodts, who finished eighth, will run at the Michigan International Speedway on Saturday in the finals.
Also qualifying locally for the state finals were Ashley Harrell of Brandywine, Torie Eger of Buchanan and Liz Hein of Buchanan.
Calhoun finished seventh overall in the boys' race to move on.
Also qualifying for the boys' was Brandywine's Tyler Weedon, who finished 13th in Division 3.
Each week one boy and one girl will be selected as the Athlete of the Week.
The athletes are selected from nominations from their coaches.
