Niles spikers finish 13th at Big 16 tournament

ST. JOSEPH – The Niles varsity volleyball team placed 13th at Big 16 Conference tournament on Saturday at St. Joseph High School.
The Lady Vikings were defeated by Battle Creek Lakeview in the opening match, 18-25, 25-19 and 9-15.
In the second round, Niles was defeated by Battle Creek Central, 25-18, 23-25 and 13-15.
After a bye, the Lady Vikings finished the tournament with a victory over Kalamazoo Loy Norrix, 25-18 and 25-19.
"Our younger players really stepped up today," Niles coach Linda Goodrich said. "Demi Schrader became a vocal leader and really took control. Patty Anton and Rebecca Lewis took over as middle hitters and really gave it everything they had."
Anton led the Lady Vikings with 14 kills, while Ashley Allison had 12 kills and Lewis seven.
Bryanna Cramer finished with 38 digs, while Sam Brawley had 32 digs and Carly Kennedy 23 digs. Allison finished with 21 digs.
Schrader and Brawley finished with 29 and 10 assists respectively.
