Niles volleyball teams swept by Harper Creek

BATTLE CREEK – The Niles varsity volleyball team was defeated by host Battle Creek Harper Creek in a SMAC crossover match Wednesday night.
No further details were available at press time.
JV Volleyball
The Niles junior varsity volleyball team was defeated by Harper Creek 25-12 and 25-13.
Jenna Grannell had three kills for the Lady Vikings, while Devyn Roberts had two blocks.
Savannah Wolnik finished with an ace and a block.
Freshmen Volleyball
The Lady Vikings lost to Harper Creek in three games Wednesday night.
Harper Creek defeated Niles 25-22, 14-25 and 15-5.
"The girls played great the first two games," Niles coach Tami Williams said. "The second game, the team was putting on a show for the fans. They did everything right and it was amazing to watch. The third game we ran into a wall. They had a server that was sending rockets across the net and we could not return them.
"I used all my time outs to try to ice her, but she was in the zone," she added.
Niles will play three matches in a row next week beginning on Monday with Brandywine.
Niles has added Lakeshore on Tuesday.
Class A District Pairings
Niles will take part in the Class A District Volleyball Tournament hosted by Portage Central beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Portage Northern and Portage Central will play in the opening match of the tournament at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 30.
Niles will face Kalamazoo Central in the second match that night at 7:30.
Kalamazoo Loy Norrix will get the winner of the Portage match on Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m., while Mattawan will take on the winner of the Niles-Kalamazoo Central match at 7:30. The finals are slated for Friday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
