NILES – A 1-0 win by Brandywine over Buchanan Wednesday night will send the Bobcats to Bridgman next week where they will take on the Lakeland Conference leading Bees in the second round of the conference soccer tournament.
Despite being out shot 18-4 by the Bucks, the Bobcats, made one of their four shots on goal count.
The goal came from Jake Harris in the first half after a handball by the Bucks in the goal box set up what proved to be the winning shot off the penalty kick.
"We can't seem to break away, neither one of us," Brandywine coach Jim McNamara said. "It's always nip and tuck, back and forth. They put a lot of pressure on us in the final five minutes. They controlled the midfield so they were able to get more good looks and had more opportunities. It's just nice to get another win."
For the Bucks, it was not being able to finish off those opportunities that hurt the Bucks Wednesday night.
"We had plenty of looks and with five minutes left in the game we hadthree or four point blank shots with the goalie out of possession and we just couldn't put it in," Buchanan coach Brian Pruett said after the loss. "There's not much I can say. We played very well in the first half, the best we've played all year, but we just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net."
